Will Milam retired on February 1, 2025, as the Chief Assistant Sheriff for Prince George’s County, Maryland. In this executive role—second-in-command of the agency—he was responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of one of the state’s most prominent law enforcement agencies.

During his tenure, Chief Milam managed and coordinated the activities of four major bureaus:

• Administration – providing logistical and administrative support;
• Field Operations – delivering the agency’s primary law enforcement services to the public;
• Court Services – ensuring safety and security within the court system;
• Professional Accountability – leading internal investigations and maintaining agency integrity.

Chief Milam also directed the agency’s response to major events and served as a key liaison to public officials and community stakeholders. He was instrumental in shaping and executing the Sheriff’s legislative agenda at both the local and state levels, while ensuring the delivery of effective and efficient law enforcement services to the public.

Prior to his appointment as Chief Assistant Sheriff, Milam served as Assistant Sheriff for the Bureau of Administration. In that capacity, he led core divisions including Budget, Personnel, Training, Special Operations, and Assets.

An executive-level law enforcement leader with over two decades of service across multiple Maryland jurisdictions, Chief Milam reflects on his early roles—particularly as a patrol officer and public information officer—as the most enlightening and formative of his career.

Chief Milam was a key member of a management team overseeing nearly 400 sworn deputy sheriffs and civilian support staff, serving a diverse population of nearly one million residents in the National Capital Region.

Chief Milam holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice (Magna Cum Laude) from the University of Maryland Global Campus, and is a graduate of the Police Union Leadership Program at Harvard Law School.
