Sheriff Maxwell Uy and opponent Will Milam to face off in June Democratic gubernatorial primary

Montgomery County sheriff candidate Will Milam hammered home one theme – accountability — when he spoke during a Monday online forum about why voters should choose him over incumbent Sheriff Maxwell Uy in the June Democratic gubernatorial primary.

The forum featuring Milam and Uy followed months of attacks against Uy’s leadership by the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 1994 MCGEO, which represents county sheriff’s deputies and is the county’s largest workers union.

Milam, a retired Prince George’s County chief assistant sheriff who lives in Poolesville, alluded to the union’s claims during the forum. The union has endorsed Milam.

“When problems arise, I think we ought to address them. When 80% of my workforce tells me something, I listen to it, I don’t just dismiss it as false or politically motivated,” Milam said, referring to when nearly 80% of union members in the sheriff’s office participated in a vote of no confidence in Uy’s leadership in September.
