Montgomery County, MD – Tom Perez, former U.S. Secretary of Labor and Montgomery County Councilmember, has endorsed Will Milam for Montgomery County Sheriff, citing Milam’s leadership experience and commitment to strengthening public safety in the county.

Perez, who also served as Assistant U.S. Attorney General for Civil Rights and Secretary of the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation, said Milam has the experience and judgment needed to lead the Sheriff’s Office and maintain public trust.

“Montgomery County deserves a Sheriff’s Office that is trusted, professional, and focused on protecting the most vulnerable,” Perez said. “Will Milam has the experience, integrity, and judgment to lead the office forward, and I’m proud to endorse him.”

This endorsement builds on strong local support from former County Executive Isiah “Ike” Leggett, Maryland State Senator Nancy King, former Montgomery County State’s Attorney and Maryland Attorney General Doug Gansler, along with a host of other current and former elected officials, reflecting a broad coalition of leaders who trust Milam to lead the Sheriff’s Office.

Milam said he was honored to receive Perez’s support. “Secretary Perez has spent his career fighting for stronger communities and effective public service–from his work on the Montgomery County Council to his leadership at the state and national levels,” Milam said. “I’m grateful for his support and his confidence in the vision we’re building for the Sheriff’s Office.”

Milam, a longtime Montgomery County resident with more than 22 years of law enforcement experience, most recently served as Chief Assistant Sheriff of Prince George’s County. His campaign focuses on strengthening domestic violence enforcement, expanding services for residents experiencing behavioral health challenges, deepening partnerships with youth and community organizations, and modernizing the Sheriff’s Office to better serve county residents.

The Democratic Primary will be held on June 23, 2026.
